The life of the NPC was once peaceful.
They knew nothing but wandering around.
Then they learned to build buildings, have jobs, and seek shelter to live in.
It was an easy life.
But no longer.
The NPCs needs have grown.
They require sleep.
They require food.
If they are too hungry for too long, they lose health, they pass out… they die.
So they must store food, farm it, forage for it.
Food is life.
Death constantly lurks around the corner.
The life of an NPC is no easy thing.
